Veteran’s Day Matches

November 11, 2023 @ 8:30 am - 2:00 pm

In celebration of Veterans Day, Manatee Gun & Archery Club will host several “military-style” rifle and pistol matches, with some relaxation of rules to accommodate a wider segment of our veteran shooting community. Veterans will organize into teams representing their branch of service or may also join a team representing a different branch to help balance out the teams. All veterans are eligible to compete, both club members and non-club members. Veterans shoot for free on the Main Line on Veterans Day and may choose to either compete in these matches or shoot recreationally.

Our “Classic Service Rifle Match” is intended for M1-style rifles (M1A/M1 Carbine/M14/M1903/M1903A3/M1917) with iron sights only. The use of a bipod, rifle rest, rear bag or any type of fixed support is not allowed, however the use of a wooden block or sandbag forward of the receiver is allowed. Caliber must be .308/7.62 NATO, .30-06 Springfield or .30 Carbine.

Our “Modern Service Rifle Match” is intended for AR-style rifles (AR-15/AR-10) with either iron sights or optics, set to no more than 4.5x power magnification. The use of a bipod, rifle rest, rear bag or any type of fixed support is not allowed, however the use of a wooden block or sandbag forward of the receiver is allowed. Caliber must be .223/5.56 NATO or .308/7.62 NATO.

Our “Sniper Rifle Match” is intended for any type of bolt-action or semi-auto (up to .30 caliber) caliber rifle, equipped with either iron sights or optics (no restrictions on magnification setting). The use of a bipod and/or rear bag is allowed.

Our pistol and revolver matches (M1911/M9/M1892) are intended to honor the history of U.S. military issue sidearms, however there is no strict requirement outside of the caliber where specified and the use of iron sights. The used of optical sights, lasers or red dots is prohibited.

Matches will run simultaneously on the main firing line from 9:00am until approximately 1:00pm and cease fire/ range cold conditions will be coordinated during this time period for maximum efficiency, to accommodate target changes and the rotation of competitors. Timekeeping and cease fire conditions are common across all matches on the main line. Competitors will compete individually for their team, and their scores will be added to an aggregate score for their team.

Food vendor “Well-Dressed Dogs will serve gourmet hot dogs and brats from 11:00am to 2:00pm, and the match winners will be announced at 2:00pm. Veterans will be provided with a voucher for free lunch.
